The E.M.A., the Early Medieval Alliance.

Welcome to the new Home of the E.M.A.
The Early Medieval Alliance

The E.M.A. is an umbrella organisation for independent, medieval re-enactment groups, chiefly representing the period from the twelfth to the fifteenth centuries. Its committee are entirely made up of volunteers from the member societies; truly run by re-enactors, for re-enactors.

The E.M.A. is best known for running events, but it's so much more than that.

It's never been more difficult to run a re-enactment group. There's so much to consider: proper insurance, health and safety laws, risk assessments and the government frequently proposing legislation restricting the manufacture, sale or ownership of the weapons and props that we use, safely and legitimately, as part of our hobby.
Then you need to be able to train your new recruits to fight safely, be ever more authentic and both educate and entertain the public; venues expect you to know more and be more.

It's enough to take the fun out of it.

But the E.M.A. is here to help. Its members have, literally, hundreds of years of combined experience in re-enactment. We support our member groups by sharing our knowledge; from paperwork to the practical issues, we've got the information to get our members out of the office and back onto the re-enactment field.
And when it comes to talking to the government we're a nationwide body that allows our members to punch above their weight. We work with other major organisations, like NAReS, The National Association of Re-Enactment Societies, being the voice of our members when they might not otherwise be heard.

And, yes, we do still run events.
